Espresso Shot by Cleo Coyle, 2008
Ever since I got hold of my first copy of the Coffeehouse Mystery series, I try my best to get the rest of them. Recently, I just finished reading the e-book version of Espresso Shot by Cleo Coyle. Espresso Shot is the seventh in the series and published in 2008.
In this series, Clare gets hired to provide gourmet coffee for Matteo’s wedding reception. We all know who Matteo is. He is Clare’s globe-trotting and womanizing ex-husband. He’s about to get married to Breanne, a famous editor in-chief who is also known to be perfectionist, cruel, and mean.
Matteo getting married may be unthinkable for some people. First, a Breanne look-alike dancer was shot dead right after his bachelor party. Second, his mother is still hoping that he and Clare get back together. Third, Clare’s detective boyfriend, Mike, is getting jealous because of Clare’s close involvement in the wedding plans.
With only a few days left before the wedding, Matteo asks Clare to “investigate” into the murder plot against Breanne. Of course, Clare is glad to be Shirley Holmes.
Although we hate Breanne’s character, her characterization becomes solid and we understand why we hate her in the first place. New characters are introduced which make the story a bit dragging for me. Keeping an eye on possible suspects and uncovering motives might be challenging for Clare but all’s well that ends well in this cozy mystery novel.
If you’re reading the Coffeehouse Mystery series, which is your favorite book? Let me know.
